i want your ugly, i want your disease

after last year's fiasco-filled vma's, several people asked me what i thought and to weigh in on the situation. i did. fast forward to september 2k10. this year's show was somewhat uneventful compared to others. i was not a big fan of chelsea handler, she's just not that funny. and no, even after his performance, i still do not have bieber fever. and no, i will not show you my bieber.

anyway, i'd mainly like to comment on this year's performances. and how much they sucked. i can honestly say that group of performers didn't do it for me. don't get me wrong, eminem killed it, but rhianna's chorus just didn't measure up. kanye was good, i really like just him up there and the drum machine. however, his auto-tune verse sounded like shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit (imagine me singing that with an auto-tune accent).

it's like, these people are supposed to be professional singers/performers and most of them couldn't even sing one chorus on key. i feel bad for b.o.b., cuz bruno mars blew and so did that chick from paramore that everybody apparently likes. like i said, rhianna blew (she only has four lines! c'mon rhianna!), and taylor swift did just alright. i was impressed that the bieber kid could sing and dance at the same time, but what he was singing sounded nothing like the recorded version that is currently making him millions. even drizzy drake was off-key (much love to mary j. blige and swiss beatz tho, mainly because swiss beatz is married to alicia keys and she is preggos).

i know what you're thinking, 'sam, why are you hatin' on all these peeps?' the reason, because we all should expect more and expect these peeps to step up to the plate.

with all this negative nancy talk, i would like to point out that there was one person who sounded good on vma night. but she wasn't a performer. instead, she was a recipient. of many awards that is. while in general i think most of what lady gaga does is a gimmick to attract unnecessary extra attention, she made a believer out of me that she can actually sing. and unlike the other performers of the night, she can sing well and can sing well even when she's not warmed-up. when she accepted her award for video of the year, she belted out a few bars from her upcoming album, and it was crystal clear.


so my hat's off to you lady gaga, way to go. hopefully, your colleagues will take some time to master their craft.

i'd love to see one of these two guys perform next year, even though i have a feeling that sammy adams doesn't sound anything like he does on record...
