but in the evening, i gotta goooooooooo...

so last week, eminem dropped his new album 'recovery.' in all honesty, i had heard the single and at first i was bothered by that stupid snare drum throughout the whole thing. slowly, i came around and began to like the song more and more. with almost no hype or promotion (i had not even the slightest idea of a release date), em released the new cd and it's awesome. i was a little upset with 'relapse,' as were many others, so it was good to see that he's back and i think he realized that 'relapse' wasn't the direction he wanted to continue in. i see it as an album for him to vent and get some demons out in the open, but i think he's over it now and he's gone back to making flat out, good music again.

i really like 'spacebound,' 'cinderella man,' 'won't back down,' 'almost famous,' and 'going through changes.' 'no love' with lil' wayne is also very good and i LOVE the 'night at the roxbury' sample, what a beat and chorus! but by far my favorite song on the album is 'so bad.' it's not very deep or revolutionary. eminem doesn't say anything super profound on the track, but the beat (doc dre!!!), the chorus, the flow, it all comes together and you can't help but bob the head.

'so bad' is actually the only dre beat on the cd, which is interesting considering he did EVERY (except 'beautiful') song on 'relapse' and he's the executive producer for that album and this one. either way, all the songs are well done and sound good together. i've said it before, and i'll say it again, there is no doubt in my mind that eminem is the greatest rapper alive, and in my mind, the greatest of all time (i still love you tupac). you can't even explain it, he's just that good. he raps so many lines per verse, so many verses per song, and every word is carefully thought out and planned. his chorus's are better than most rapper's verses, and in some cases, his chorus's are longer than other rapper's verses.

overall, a great album, i highly recommend it. i would've like to see a dre verse somewhere on there, but it's all good. em was finally able to write a song for proof, and i think he did it justice.

i got excited about slim shady's return after i saw this on last year's bet awards, he's just so good. mos def and black thought kill it as well!
